Spiritual Race

Like horses running on a track
We are in a race
And there is a battle for the seats on our backs.
From stages to stages;
Ages to ages
We have been running for our lives.

From a womb called weeping
Though warm and physically protected
You came out kicking and screaming
You came out knowing—
That you have entered into a race for your life

You felt the spiritual blows she sustained
So you kicked in her stomach;
You kicked in her defense
Your race started then
Out you came in a world call sin

Run saints, Run
This world is not made for you

You endured the brokenness of your family
Went to school and got swallowed in by the culture
You’ve been running since then
Finding your identity and securing your innocence
And for some, its recovering stolen innocence
For you’ve been robbed by a family untold secret
Suffocating trauma, choking your identity
You’ve been running since then

Sheltered by the hearts of parents
Who are fearful you will experience
The pain that still haunts them
Their constant prayer for you is that of protection and not perseverance
Defenseless against the world once exposed
You’ve been running since then

Shot by bullets from the mouth of a broken mother
Who was shot by bullets from the mouth of her broken mother
And so on.
You’ve been running since then
Being raised with an absent father, mentally or physically
You learned to become a man without his guidance
You’ve been running since then

Run saints, Run
The Son will be guiding you

Then you became a teen
The period in which you developed an identity
Instead, you wrestle with the brokenness of your identity
You spend most of this period in internal conflict
You’ve been running since then
But the race got tougher
Because the opponent’s plan
Is to keep you from knowing who you are
You’ve been running for your identity

This is not a race for the swift
But for those who can fall and pick themselves back up
It is a race that sheds the external pseudo
While highlighting internal strengths and flaws
This is not a race for personal gain
This is a race of life or death
Your endurance and speed
Lie in the power of the tongue

Run saints, Run
The enemy, like a prowling lion, is trying to capture you

While in the natural we race with our legs
In the spirit, we race using faith through the power of the tongue
Speak life and you will progress in the race
Speak death and you will fall behind on the track
Discern the distractions that are sent
To manipulate what you speak

Do not entertain any shortcuts,
Take no detours
Press forward on the straight and narrow
Gird your waist with the Truth
Walk by Faith but run in Peace

Run saints, Run
This race is a prophecy

Scripture Support:
Hebrew 12:1 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,”
Isaiah 40:31 “but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Jeremiah 12:5 “If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan?”
