Yes, guard your heart.
But not with your own understanding and strength
It is better to guard your heart with established trust in God.
Guard your heart by the spirit of the only wise God
For He is the only wisdom that can keep us from wandering
With a deep breath and a clear mind,
Answer this:
What is truly guarding your heart?
A heart guarded by hurt is a bitter heart
That often blocks out or sabotages the plans of God to prosper us.
Walls built by bricks called broken trust
Puts the heart in solitary confinement
Hindering the voice of God
And interactions with His presence.
Assess your guarding posture.
Is it actually guarding or blocking?
In hurt and in pain what do you run to first?
What do you lean on while trusting God?
Answers to these questions will identify
Your true shield and buckler.
The things we allow our hearts to digest
And the sounds we allow our hearts to listen to
Will eventually become the foundation
Of what guards your heart.
Mixing scriptures with the habits of the flesh
Is not guarding the heart—
A lukewarm heart will be caught by surprise.
An uncleaned pipeline causes blockage
So it is for the heart that does not exhale.
Do not hold your heart’s breath
For the hope that man will never fail you.
Exhale that, then trust in God.
A heart that does not breathe
Is not guarded
Because while it may be protected from external influence
Internally, an infection eats away at it.
Exhale, therefore, what is fleshly in you.
We sing “You’ve got the whole world in your hands”
Does not the whole world include our hearts?
But constantly we hold our hearts in our own hands.
Gripping it tightly, fearful to let God
Have His own way with it
So we run from the pruning
And withdraw from adversities.
But a heart unpruned and not tried by fire
Is an untrustworthy heart, even to its owner
Because it is not guarded.
How do you attend to your heart?
Do not forget His teaching,
Nor allow our hearts to not keep His commandments.
He promised length of days and years of life and peace
To the heart that keeps His commandments.
Therefore a heart without the commandments
Is a dead or dying heart
Because it is not guarded.
Life will test you.
Family will abandon you,
And friends will hurt you
But our responsibility to the heart is to
Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake it;
Lean not on our own understanding.
We are responsible for the posture of our hearts
Therefore, command it
To trust in the Lord.
Woe to the heart that does not trust in the Lord
Because it will not guarded.
The word of God gives us the cheat sheet to guard our hearts.
A mind that is fixed on the Lord
Will experience a perfect peace
And the peace of God will guard our hearts.
If your heart constantly experience hurt
Check the fixation of your mind.
It is the nature of the mind to wander
And it is your responsibility to fix it on the Lord.
A mind not fixed on Christ
Will yield an unguarded heart.
