Come Alive

I heard them coming together,
Scraping on the ground
As they drew closer to each other
Engraving in the dirt
A message of resurrection.
I heard the dry bones come alive

I saw a still breeze
Hovering over the valley
Like oxygen entering the lungs and blood,
The mountains looked at each other
And asked, “shall we?”
In agreement, they curtsy
I watched the mountains come alive

I watched Lazarus die,
Through the lens of the New Testament.
I saw him wrapped in cloths and locked in a tomb
I heard the words “come forth”
And I watched him walk out of his grave
I watched dead things come alive

I watched the thick fog of 2020
Blind the hope of nations
I saw churches crumble—
During the pandemic
And the body of Christ stumble
Due to the lack of in-person services
Then churches reopened—
I watched the people’s hope come alive

We serve a God who specifies in resurrections
A God whose words bring dead things to life
And speak them into their functions
He gave us that same power
When He said “life and death is in the power of the tongue”
Then He encouraged us to speak life
We have the power to make dead things
Come Alive—

Supportive Scripture: Ezekiel 37:1-5 “The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”

I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.”

Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath[a] enter you, and you will come to life.
