The dust kicks up behind you
As you gain speed
Blinding those assigned to keep you on track.
As far as the east is from the west
You try to create distance between your call
But God heard your running steps
And set purpose to chase after you.
From dusk till dawn,
From childhood to adulthood,
From sundown to sun up
How long——
Will you be running?
We run because of a lack of understanding.
We, selfishly, fail to understand that we are His people
And the sheep of His pasture.
We often, unconsciously, neglect that lives are at stake
When we run from Him who sends us.
We tend not to understand that we are called to serve,
Not just Him, but His people.
But we grow weary of His children’s imperfections.
So we run.
How long——
Will you be running?
Patience is a virtue
That keeps us from falling
Because it stops us from running.
Where there is no patience,
We will fail to wait on and in the Lord.
Stop running when the seed you plant
Do not bear fruit in your timing.
We should never run when we believe
We don’t know to do a thing.
But stand our ground
And remember we can do all things through Christ.
How long——
Will you be running?
When we lean on our own understanding
We become runners from purpose.
The lack of understanding of God’s timing
Overwhelms us because we seek Him not
For wisdom and decision-making.
When it doesn’t meet our expectations
We run.
When it feels unusual
We run
When the pressure comes
We run
All because we lean not on His understanding.
How long——
Will you be running?
We run when we are uncomfortable.
Forgetting that discomfort
Challenges us to grow,
We run back to our norm
A place that no longer challenges us.
We tie our shoe strings tight,
And we run from destiny
Because the path to it is not a bed of roses.
Faster than Usain Bolt we become
When hurt and pain is present
Instead of allowing them to convict and teach us.
How long——
Will you be running?
We not only run from the external
But also the internal issues of the heart.
We ignore, we distract and we suppress
A.K.A. we run, we run and we run.
Running from internal healing
Is self-abuse and self-abandonment.
Aren’t you tired?
How long——
Will you be running?
We run because we do not want to be planted.
We run from the church and blame it on “church hurt”.
In pride, we walk away prematurely from assignments
That requires our endurance.
We run from parenting
Because of the fear of being like our parents
We hurdle over kingdom friendships
And run a relay in intimate relationships
Still, we are not satisfied.
How long——
Will you be running?
We continue to run from what we are called to
Because we believe our past disqualifies us.
But, who God calls He qualifies.
We allow fear, hurt, and pain
To put us in flight mode.
Like nomads seeking new grounds to settle
We go from place to place, people to people
All in the name of running from the past.
Reconcile that you must heal from the past
To truly encounter your purpose.
How long will you run from your call
And a meaningful life?
We are constantly running
But still unfit.
Take off your shoes and stop running.
Scripture Support:
Jeremiah 12:5 “If thou hast run with the footmen and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? And if in the land of peace, wherein thou trusted, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of the Jordan?”
Galatians 6:9-10 “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
And I learned to wait on God for the thing I want most however unfit
